Evening with a boa constrictor on Antique Row
At Evening on Antique Row on Saturday, an artist will do a live painting of a model holding a 7.5-foot boa constrictor.
Saturday Night Squeeze Play
It won’t be hard to find portrait artist Serge Strosberg at Evening on Antique Row in West Palm Beach this Saturday night. He’ll be the one painting the model with a giant snake wrapped around her body.
Brazilian model Lara Barauna will be accompanied by Andromeda, her 7.5-foot boa constrictor, in a tent on South Dixie Highway outside Strosberg’s studio, Palm Beach Premier Portraits.
Strosberg will do a live painting of Barauna and Andromeda around 6:30 p.m. with a goal of finishing by 9 p.m.
It’s not the first time Barauna has modeled for Strosberg with a snake. I first met the artist and model in December for a story I wrote about a drawing class led by Strosberg at The Peach arts collective where Barauna posed with a ball python. (That snake was much smaller than the boa constrictor that will be on display Saturday at Evening on Antique Row.)
Earlier this year, I wrote about Strosberg again when his colorized paintings of classic Old Florida Gilded Age photographs were displayed at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County in downtown Lake Worth Beach.
He has expanded that series for a special exhibit that will be displayed at the Historical Society of Palm Beach from May 4-25. A preview of that show will be on display Saturday night at his studio, on the second floor at 3636 S. Dixie Hwy.
But I’ve gotta admit: I am looking forward to seeing the boa constrictor and the reactions of Evening on Antique Row guests who happen upon Strosberg’s outdoor tent.
One more memorable snake story can be found here: The day I was bike riding in Big Cypress National Preserve and stumbled upon a large Burmese python wrestling an alligator.
