Worlds Are Colliding in Lake Worth Beach!
Two popular but vastly-different South J Street music venues are joining forces to host an independent music festival next weekend. What would “Independent George” think??

What happens when young punkers mix with graying hippies?
When word first leaked out that Propaganda and Rudy’s Pub were joining forces to host a music festival in downtown Lake Worth Beach, my first instinct was to channel the “Worlds Are Colliding” theory from the TV show Seinfeld.
In that famous episode, George was engaged to Susan, who gets invited by Elaine to see an art exhibit. This upsets George and Kramer, who explains to Jerry: “This world here, this is George’s sanctuary. If Susan comes into contact with his world, his worlds collide.’’
You can get a taste of that amusing theory by clicking this link.
What does this have to do with Postcards from Paradise, the two-day independent music festival that Propaganda and Rudy’s are co-hosting April 14-15 on South J Street?
As I explain in my latest story, Propaganda is generally considered a punk club frequented by a younger crowd. Rudy’s, located a short walk across the street, is a folk/jazz/blues venue popular with an older crowd. Each club is its own separate sanctuary catering to loyal but very different audiences of “independent” Georges.
If the moshing grungesters come into contact with the graying hippies, as George would say, “Worlds will collide!”
The owners of the two venues think the opposite will happen when they share stage space for the 18 bands scheduled to perform at Postcards from Paradise. Sure, the two music worlds will collide. But instead of destroying either world, the collision will help the two venues get to know each other a little better, regardless of their different sounds and vibes.
“It will be great cross-promotion’’ for the two music venues, Propaganda co-owner Natalie Jaramillo told me.
“I want people to have an opportunity to step outside the box and come in here,’’ she said. “People who have never been to Prop, the regulars from Rudy’s, are going to come in here and go, ‘Wow, this is really cool,’ and vice versa.’’
The festival is an experiment aimed at unifying the growing South J Street music scene.

Speaking of Rudy’s….
Nearly a year ago, we reported about the city of Lake Worth Beach’s intent to shut down the popular back outdoor patio at Rudys Pub. The city said the patio should be converted to its original approved use — a parking lot, regardless of the fact that the space was rarely ever used for parking.
This came as a shock to Rudy’s regulars who only started partying on the patio as a way to safely congregate and watch live music during the pandemic. Although the worst of the pandemic is behind us, the patio has blossomed into a popular outdoor space for music.
The city’s deadline for Rudy’s to comply came and went, the result of negotiations behind the scenes that have gone unreported until now. There’s always a chance the city decides to crack down again and pressure Rudy’s to close the patio, but sources in and out of City Hall say that’s unlikely to happen.
