Why subscribe?
First off, let me try to explain the subtle difference between Palm Beach Stories and ByJoeCapozzi.com, the independent news blog I launched in 2021.
ByJoeCapozzi.com tries to fill local news gaps by writing compelling stories about people and things happening in our backyards. It’s a place to find stories about the world just beyond the glitz and glamour of the Palm Beaches, where a combination of Florida man and mostly ordinary people are doing fascinating and sometimes controversial things.
Paid subscribers to Palm Beach Stories will get a peek behind the scenes. I’ll share insight into my ByJoeCapozzi.com stories and background on how they come together. You’ll get a more personalized version of my work, where I’ll tell you how I came to write the story, why I think it’s important and sometimes bits that didn’t make it into the final cut.
ByJoeCapozzi.com is a passion project and a calling. A good story might make you laugh, or cry, or even angry. That’s the point of a story told in a compelling way, something I tried to do in my 31 years as a reporter at The Palm Beach Post. I left in December 2020 not knowing exactly what I planned to do next, but I quickly learned one thing: Although I no longer work at a daily newspaper, I have been unable to find an “off” switch on my love for written storytelling.
So, I started ByJoeCapozzi.com and set off on a freeform mission to fill it with stories that mostly were not being told or reported by the larger traditional mainstream media outlets. Although I often break news on my site, I don’t necessarily consider myself a competitor to my former employer. I still have friends there who are doing their best under challenging circumstances.
While my stories on ByJoeCapozzi.com are free for anyone to read, Palm Beach Stories is a subscriber only product. I hope you’ll join me behind the scenes and support local journalism. And I’m always open to hearing ideas from you on stories you would like to read.
